Sourdough #6: Drafting Hope, Creating Counter-Narratives
mit migrazine und maiz

Bei diesem Treffen präsentieren wir die letzte Ausgabe des Online-Magazins migrazine „Hoffnung entwerfen, Gegenerzählungen schaffen“, an der wir beteiligt waren, auf der Suche nach Lebensmodellen, Gemeinschaftsformen und Werten, die sowohl die Emanzipation von Technologiemonopolen als auch unsere Fähigkeit zu politischem digitalem Engagement fördern. Das Eingreifen mit Gegenerzählungen, die Entwicklung alternativer Nutzungen und Räume für Technologien sowie der Aufbau von Beziehungen, die Empathie und Großzügigkeit fördern, waren einige der Formen des (Re-)Existierens in einem hyper-digitalisierten Leben, die wir zur Bearbeitung dieses Themas zusammengetragen haben.

Gemeinsam mit den Autorinnen Aimilia Liountou und Mary Maggic werden wir zwei der veröffentlichten Texte besprechen: zum einen die soziopolitische Entwicklung von Emojis im globalen kulturellen Raum und zum anderen „Workshopology“ als Praxis und Forschungsmethodologie für Künstler*innen und interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit.

Wir laden Aktivistinnen, Autorinnen, Künstlerinnen, Redakteurinnen und die interessierte Öffentlichkeit zu einem Abend voller spielerischem und kreativem Austausch über hegemoniale digitale Infrastrukturen und mögliche Wege zu ihrer Überwindung ein – unter Anerkennung der damit verbundenen Widersprüche.

migrazine - Online-Magazin von Migrantinnen für alle* ist ein mehrsprachiges Magazin und eine alternative Medienplattform, die sich mit migrationsbezogenen Phänomenen sowie sozio-politischen Themen beschäftigt. migrazine ging erstmals 2009 online, herausgegeben von maiz (Autonomes Zentrum von & für Migrantinnen), aus dem Wunsch heraus, kritische migrantische Stimmen in den Medien stärker hörbar zu machen und stereotypen Darstellungen von Migrant*innen entgegenzutreten. http://www.migrazine.at/

Es wird zunehmend klar, dass die Abhängigkeit von US Big Tech nicht nur uns persönlich schadet, sondern auch unserer Gesellschaft und Umwelt. Um diese Abhängigkeit zu verringern, begehen wir monatlich den Digital Independence Day: https://di.day/

Wir freuen uns, erste Einblicke in „AMRO26 – Art Meets Radical Openness” zu geben. Das Programm ist jetzt online verfügbar: https://radical-openness.org/!

Seit 2008 bringt AMRO Künstler:innen, Aktivist:innen, Entwickler:innen und Forscher:innen zusammen, die sich mit offenen Kulturen und kollektiven Praktiken beschäftigen. Die Ausgabe 2026 setzt diesen Austausch im Rahmen eines viertägigen Programms mit Vorträgen, Workshops, Performances und Ausstellungen fort.

#AMRO26: Becoming Unreadable

Unter dem Titel „Becoming Unreadable“ untersucht und kritisiert die 2026 Ausgabe des AMRO-Festivals die digitalen Bedingungen, unter denen wir leben und arbeiten. Es hinterfragt die Vorstellung, dass eine ständige Online-Omnipräsenz normal und wünschenswert ist, und verfolgt diese unkritischen Annahmen bis in den Bereich der Open-Source-Software zurück. Diese Vernetzung bildet die Grundlage der Mainstream-Digitalkulturen. Sie dient zugleich als Werkzeug für allgegenwärtige Überwachung sowie die ausbeuterische Aneignung von Werken und Daten durch Big Tech, was kritischen Widerstand erforderlich macht.

Alternative Zugänge zu digitalen Technologien –nicht kommerzielle, ethische, nachhaltige und gemeinschaftsfördernde –werden im Rahmen des Festivalprogramms vorgestellt und untersucht.

By exploring the potential of low-tech, slow, obsolete, overlooked and small technologies, we will uncover the social, creative and infrastructural protocols for community computing and sustainable networking.

  • Inhaltlich widmet sich FMR 26 vier Themen, die gleichermaßen in der Ausstellung wie im Rahmenprogramm verhandelt werden: Digital Afterlife and Immortality, AI Societies, Power Structures, and Resistance, Future Archaeology and Digital Artifacts sowie Digital Deceleration, Isolation, and the New Idyll. Die Themen kreisen um die Spannung zwischen Temporarität und Permanenz im digitalen Zeitalter – ganz im Sinne des Festivaltitels, der auf das griechische Wort „ephḗmeros“ („nur einen Tag lebend, vergänglich, flüchtig“) anspielt.

Sourdough #6: Drafting Hope, Creating Counter-Narratives
with migrazine und maiz

When: Friday 24th April, 17:00–19:30

In this gathering we present the last issue of the online-magazine migrazine "Drafting Hope, Creating Counter-Narratives” in which we took part in search for models of life, community and values that promote the emancipation from technology monopolies as well as our capacity for a political digital engagement. Intervening with counter-narratives, creating alternative uses and spaces for technologies, as well as building relationships that inspire empathy and generosity were some of the forms of (re)existence in a hyper-digitalized life that we gathered to tackle this issue.

Together with the authors Aimilia Liountou and Mary Maggic we will go through two of the published texts: respectively, the sociopolitical development of emojis in the global cultural sphere, and “Workshopology” as practice and research methodology for artists and interdisciplinary collaborations.

We invite activists, authors, artists, editors and general public to an evening full of playful, creative exchange on hegemonic digital infrastructure and possible ways to overcome them - acknowledging our contradictions at hand.

migrazine - Online Magazine by Migrant Women* for Everyone is a multilingual magazine and alternative media platform that deals with migration-related phenomena as well as socio-political issues. migrazine went online for the first time in 2009, published by maiz (Autonomous Centre by & for Migrant Women), born out of a desire to make critical migrant voices more audible in the media and to stand up against the clichéd portrayal of migrants. http://www.migrazine.at/

Since 2008, AMRO brings together artists, activists, developers, and researchers working with open cultures and collective practices. The 2026 edition continues this exchange across a four-day programme of talks, workshops, performances, and exhibitions.

#AMRO26: „Becoming Unreadable“

Under the title "Becoming Unreadable", the 2026 edition of the AMRO Festival examines and critiques the digital conditions under which we live and work. It questions the notion that constant online omnipresence is normal and desirable, and traces these uncritical assumptions back into the realm of open-source software. This interconnectedness forms the basis of mainstream digital cultures and serves as a tool for pervasive surveillance and the exploitative appropriation of works and data by Big Tech, which demands critical resistance.

Alternative approaches to digital technologies such as non-commercial, ethical, more sustainable and community-building, will be presented and evaluated within the festival programme.

  • Thematically, FMR 26 addresses four subject areas that are explored in both the exhibition and the accompanying programme: Digital Afterlife and Immortality, AI Societies, Power Structures, and Resistance, Future Archaeology and Digital Artifacts as well as Digital Deceleration, Isolation, and the New Idyll. The themes revolve around the tension between temporality and permanence in the digital age — in keeping with the festival title, which alludes to the Greek word “ephḗmeros” (“lasting only a day, transient, fleeting”).
