Kurze Serverwartung am Sonntag 2. August, 10 Uhr

Wegen Einspielen eines Updates ist ein Reboot von einer Maschine in unserem Cluster notwendig. Es wird am Sonntag 2. August zwischen 10:00 und 11:00 Uhr gemacht. Downtime sollte ungefähr 10 Minuten sein. Betroffene Dienste: unsere Docker und Neudocker Instanzen; gitlab.servus.at und social.servus.at. Danke für euer Verständnis!

Digital Independence Day: Sonntag 2. August, 14 Uhr

Wann: Sonntag, 2. August 2026, ab 14:00
Wo: Willy*Fred Gassenlokal, Graben 3, 4020 Linz

Es wird zunehmend klar, dass die Abhängigkeit von US Big Tech nicht nur uns persönlich schadet, sondern auch unserer Gesellschaft und Umwelt. Um diese Abhängigkeit zu verringern, begehen wir monatlich den Digital Independence Day: https://di.day/

Diesmal als Fokus: “Everyday Security” Basics (z.B. E-Mails, Passwörter, Firewalls) so wie Strategien, die jede*r leicht einsetzen kann, um die eigene Sicherheit online zu verbessern. Diverse nicht-US & nicht-Big-Tech Werkzeuge werden präsentiert, um die eigenen Geräte zu sichern.

Privacy Basics: kurze Einführung über die Methoden, die US- und/oder Big-Tech Dienste nutzen, um unsere Privacy zu verletzen (e.g. E-mails, DNS Resolver, Suchmaschinen, Navigation). Auch hier werden europäische, datenschutzfreundliche Software und Dienste vorgestellt für die tägliche Nutzung.

Office Anwesenheit in August

In August wird das operativen Team von servus.at einen wohlverdienten Urlaub genießen.
Dank des Vorstands und unseres technischen Beirats sind Kerndienste sichergestellt – und für Ausfälle werden wir sowieso da sein.

Bitte für neue Projekte und Spezialanfragen ein paar Wochen Geduld haben. Das Team ist Ende August wieder im vollenUmfang aktiv.

Petition für Google Kronstorf: Transparente Gesamtprüfung jetzt!

Das Thema Rechenzenrtum Widerstand war sehr präsent beim letzten AMRO und servus.at freut sich, dass die Diskussionen über massive Infrastrukturprojekte wie das Google Hypervisor in Kronstorf jetzt eine breitere Öffentlichkeit erreicht haben. Das Projekt in Kronstorf verfolgt servus.at seit dem Research Lab 2019 https://research.radical-openness.org/2019/ – wir unterstützen die Bürgerinitiative, die gerade mehr Transparenz verlangt.

Server maintenance on Sunday 2nd August, 10am

One machine from our cluster needs to be rebooted due to some updates. This will be done on Sunday 2nd of August between 10:00 and 11:00 am. The downtime should be around 10 minutes. The following services will be shortly unavailable: our docker and neudocker instances; gitlab.servus.at; social.servus.at. Thank you for your understanding!

It is becoming increasingly clear that our dependence on US Big Tech is not only harmful to us personally, but also to our society and the environment. To reduce this dependence, we celebrate Digital Independence Day every month: https://di.day/

This time:

Everyday Security basics (e.g. e-mails, passwords, firewalls), some best practices that everyone can easily implement to improve their security, and (non US-based and/or Big Tech) tools to keep your personal tech safe.

Privacy basics: a short introduction to the threat models of common US-based and/or Big-Tech services (e.g. e-mails, DNS resolver, search engines, navigation) and European, privacy-friendly alternatives for everyday use.

Team Availability in August

In August the servus.at operative team will take a well deserved holiday break.

Thanks to the Association Board and the Technical Board our main services will be kept operational. Outages or other technical problems will be as always taken care of.

Just a heads up! For new projects or special requests, please keep a bit of patience. Our team will be fully operational towards end of August.

Petition for Google Kronstorf: a Transparent General Evaluation now!

As one of the main topics of the past AMRO Festival was the resistance against datacenter projects, servus.at is happy that the discussion about massive infrastructures like the Google Hypervisor in Kronstorf finally reached a wider public discussion. Servus.at is following the project in Kronstorf since the Research Lab 2019 https://research.radical-openness.org/2019/ – and therefore we support the citizen initiative that is calling for more transparency about the project.
