⊨ 30% Budgetkürzung von Bund 🥵
Bad news. BWKKMS kürzte unsere Jahresförderung 2025 um 30%
Vor ein paar Tagen haben wir die lang erwartete Mitteilung des Bundesministeriums für Wohnen, Kunst, Kultur, Medien und Sport über die Höhe der Fördermittel für das Jahresprogramm 2025 erhalten.
Mit Erschrecken mussten wir feststellen, dass Servus im Jahr 2025 30% weniger Mittel vom Bundeskanzleramt erhalten wird als in den letzten zwei Jahren. Eine Begründung oder Zukunftsaussicht wurde nicht kommuniziert. Dies ist natürlich sehr besorgniserregend und zeigt, wie fragil das Ökosystem der Kunstserver ist. Zudem wird deutlich, wie wenig der Diskurs über eine nachhaltige und gerechte digitale Infrastruktur die für die Förderung von Kunst und Kultur zuständigen Institutionen erreicht.
Das hat natürlich Auswirkungen auf unser Jahresprogramm und wirft Fragen zur kommenden Ausgabe von AMRO auf. Wir sind dabei, unser Jahresprogramm anzupassen und einen Zukunftsplan zu entwickeln. Wir werden euch auf jeden Fall auf dem Laufenden halten.

Eine Mitgliedschaft verschafft nicht nur Zugang zu unserer Community und Infrastruktur, sondern trägt auch dazu bei, unseren Betrieb weniger abhängig vom schwankenden politischen Willen zu machen.

⊨ Kooperation mit MFRU, Open Call für Students
Auch 2025 kooperiert servus.at mit dem MFRU, dem International Festival of Computer Arts in Maribor. Ende September eröffnet die neue Ausgabe mit dem Titel „Esoteric Ecotechnics. Irrational Computation and Conspiratorial Networking”, die von Lara Mejac und Davide Bevilacqua kuratiert wird.
Derzeit läuft eine Ausschreibung für studentische Projekte, die sich mit minimalistischen, sozialen und ökologischen Formen der Berechnung im Kontext von Magie, Volkstraditionen, Ritualen und Prinzipien des Irrationalen beschäftigen. Von Cyberwitchcraft bis zum rural Computing.

⊨ 30% Budget cut from Ministry 🥵
Bad news. BWKKMS cuts our 2025 annual program by 30%
A few days ago, we received the long-awaited notification from the Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport about the amount of funding for the 2025 annual program.
We were shocked to discover that Servus will receive 30% less funding from the Federal Chancellery in 2025 than in the last two years. No justification or future prospects has been yet communicated. This is of course very worrying and shows how fragile the art server ecosystem is. It also shows how little the discourse on the development of sustainable and fair digital infrastructures for the arts reaches the institutions responsible for promoting art and culture.
This naturally has an impact on our annual program and raises questions about the upcoming issue of AMRO. We are in the process of adapting our annual program and developing a plan for the future. We will definitely keep you informed.

⊨ Cooperation with MFRU 2025, Call for Student Works
Also in this year servus.at cooperates with MFRU, the International Festival of Computer Arts in Maribor. Opening in late September, this edition curated by Lara Mejac & Davide Bevilacqua is titled “Esoteric Ecotechnics. Irrational Computation and Conspiratorial Networking”. Within the festival program, servus helps with the digital infrastructure and invovles its members & community.
There is currently a call for student projects that deal with minimalist, social and ecological forms of computation in the context of magic, folk traditions, rituals and principles of the irrational. From cyberwitchcraft to rural computing.
